New TPFS Chair, Julie Cornish, calls for volunteers

For the last year The Pelvic Floor Society has been collecting HES data, ISCP logbook data and other national audit data collections and surveys to look at what pelvic floor surgery is being offered around the country, where there are gaps and how our trainees are doing. This has shown some significant issues with a decline in the number of colorectal surgeons performing rectal prolapse and anal sphincter surgery, a decline in the exposure of trainees to procedures, and an increasing concern from trainees and early year consultants about performing and setting up pelvic floor units.

In response to this we are setting up a Task Force of volunteers and this means you!

We invite up to 8 members to join us for at least one year, with support from the executive group. Those volunteers not selected will be invited to help us with a series of chapter meetings to establish local networks around existing MDTs and to help facilitate MDTs where none currently exist. We are looking for a range of skill sets so all are welcome.

The group will be assigned to one of 4 areas:

  1. Curriculum Development to work with the SAC and deaneries to assess current curriculum to modernise content, moving outdated procedures and addressing trainees need for CCT and FRCS.
  2. Education courses with course mapping and accreditation.
  3. Collaboration with Early Years Consultant Network (EYCN) to establish mentorship programmes and courses:
    • Develop educational material/course/lecture for - setting up a pelvic floor service, how to get accreditation
    • Microfellowships and badged post CCT fellowships
  4. Engagement with junior doctors and students

The first meeting of the Task Force will be online, 5-6pm on the 3rd September 2026.
